The best reason for not taking credit…

June 19, 2012

most likely, in anything you do, you are standing on the shoulders of giants.

You have no idea who came before you and “pulled out the rocks from the field.” You don’t know who ploughed the ground before you. In some cases you will, but in many cases you won’t.

Taking a lot of credit–grabbing for glory–is not only bad-looking, in most cases it’s just plain wrong.

Better to distribute credit widely to those you know are due… and spreading it even further to those you aren’t aware of, as much as you can.

People are more likely to share things with those who don’t grab credit, and in this world, the more resources get shared with you freely, the more you can do, think, influence, and see.

People are leery of credit-hoarders. When you’re around a credit-hoarder, it makes you want to hoard a little credit for yourself, almost defensively. Stay away from them, and don’t be one yourself.
