Fears and Failures

June 25, 2012

1. Don’t do anything at all. Never try anything new.

2. Do the same thing over and over again, and expect something different to eventually happen [ insert famous Einstein quote here].

3. Do the same thing over and over again but never measure it against a goal, so never know if you’re getting anywhere.

4. Never do what you do in a place that is dangerous or risky, because something might happen which would destroy your ability to do what you do. [Insert famous inspirational poster about boats and harbors here.]

Note that in none of these ways to fail do I count an ” experiment gone awry” as a failure. [insert famous Thomas Edison quote here.]

The lesson: while trying to avoid the failures we fear, we actually fail in greater and more fatal ways.
