If it’s nonsense, it’s from God?

November 22, 2011

I know it is from God because it is nonsense,” WorldChristians.wordpress.com. Excellent little bit that engages on the often misunderstood verse of 1 Corinthians 1:25. This verse says “God’s foolishness is higher than human wisdom”—but it is all in the context of the Crucifixion, which Jews and Greeks at the time both passed off as a foolish gospel. It doesn’t mean something from God won’t make sense to us (well, at least, in the long run). What it actually says: were it possible to say God were foolish, even what is “foolish” or “simple” or “stupid” from God (hoping this isn’t blasphemy!) would make more sense than the wisest thing a human could say. (Even though it might be “initially hard to understand.”)

Important because people in missions will be faced with making plans from time to time. Sometimes people will quote this verse to say that all planning is futile and even ungodly. But it’s not the right application.
