“The Plan to Bring an Asteroid to Earth,” Wired.com, covers in detail some of the intricacies and benefits of bringing an asteroid to near Earth orbit. Not least is the financial worth of such a rock: even a small one could be worth more than US$70 trillion and contain about 30 times the amount of metals mined in all of human history. The one thing the article doesn’t cover is the idea of terrorism: one or two rogue astronauts could devastate or even destroy a country simply by shoving the asteroid into a crash orbit.
