Options kept open = less happiness. The reason is simple: once you’re committed, and truly committed, you stop thinking about the alternatives. The article goes into detail, or if you want a lot of detail you could read Dan Gilbert’s “Stumbling on Happiness.” The point is, once you commit to something, you’re happier for it. (Which doesn’t mean you should rush ahead too fast–only that dragging your feet has negative consequences.)
