Projections for current conflicts

August 18, 2011

Today I am on the way to Dallas for a week of meetings and some to survey the housing situation there. I will be posting from Texas. If you would like to try to meetup send me an email. Meanwhile tapping on my phone to write here:

- Libya’s government looks likely to fall. In the short run expect massive increase in instability. Whether the long run is any better for the church is doubtful. Gaddafi was not a fundamentalist Muslim. Uncertain what the next government will be like.

Update 7:46pm I think this is a very strong prospect in the next week.
Update 8/20 the attack will take a long time, no doubt, to finish. Perhaps weeks.

- Syria is under increasing pressure but I don’t see much being done that would cause the govt to fall. Interesting that they say the have stopped action against the protesters. Could be an attempt to mitigate against regime change efforts.

- horn of africa: lots of reports of aid getting in but much still needed. Tweeting these reports as I find them.

- several interesting comments on west africa, esp. Niger. Would appreciate links to quality assessments of Boko Haram group. Hard to know the true situation from a chair in America: I rely on my on the ground community for wisdom!
