Vijay Govindarajan, “Under Fire, Microfinance Faces Falling Out of Favor,” HBR.org: briefly discusses some of the issues for which microfinance has come under fire in the past year and a half. Microfinance and microenterprise are both key tools in the effort to alleviate poverty. The trick is that microfinance firms must be able to make a profit that sustains their efforts. Unfortunately some have gotten greedy. Govindarajan is optimistic and hopeful that the issues will be resolved, because the tools are too important to be dropped.
