Innovating to Zero in Human Trafficking: or, Nepal is doing better

July 2, 2011

There is a new report out on the status of human trafficking, which I’ll do an analysis on later. For the moment I want to highlight Nepal. Hindustan Times has an article up about how Nepal is doing better. I’ve noted before in Status of Human Trafficking 2011 that some groups in Nepal are working on completely eradicating human trafficking there. It’s a phenomenal effort that’s worth considering.

Here’s the challenge: forget about “reducing” something. How can you get to Zero? Because what it takes to “reduce” is not the same as what it takes to get to “Zero.”

Bill Gates illustrates this concept in a TED video on “Innovating to Zero.” (Forget the politics and everything around the idea of climate change and carbon emissions, and just consider the background concept in this video–figuring out not how to reduce but to achieve the final goal.)

What does it take to reduce Human Trafficking to Zero–and sustain that?

What does it take to reduce the number of people with no access to the Gospel to Zero — and sustain that?

What does it take to reduce the number of people with no access to a church to Zero — and sustain that?
