Global livestock counts: Counting chickens. An important measure of our capacity to produce meat per person is measured in these four charts from the Economist (chickens, cattle, pigs, sheep).
Globally, we have on average 19 billion chickens–or 3 per person. (Obviously some countries produce more and others less). Likewise, globally we average about 1 cow per person.
What do these statistics say about the possibilities for a meat-centric diet worldwide? And what should Christians be saying about healthy diets? What does Biblical discipleship have to say about food?
