Cooking as Mission: The Culinary Arts and Management School [Ministry Option]

July 28, 2011

Bevin Ginder wrote me the following after I wrote about using food from other regions to mobilize Millennials, and J. D. Payne followed up on this with a post focused on Cooking as Mission. Bevin, who is with YWAM Strategic Frontiers, told me about The Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management School to teach people how to, essentially, run a restaurant (obviously, in another culture) as a way to bless nations. Here’s what she says:

(CARMs) is a 9 month course that will prepare you to work in an existing restaurant, or to start a kingdom-focused business on the field. Taught by professional chefs, business and missions practioners, CARMs covers both basic cooking skills as well as more complex menu items. Restaurant management and business principles are an integral part of course content.

Our campus, previously the Hilton Hotel of Colorado Springs, is uniquely equipped with a full restaurant and coffee / tea bar including a professional kitchen and short order kitchen. Students will have access to complete dining, event and catering equipment and facilities.

Course Content: Business as Missions, The Biblical View of Nutrition, Knife Skills and Butchery, Introduction to Cooking, Sauces and International Cuisine, Introduction to Baking, Service and Front of House, Effective Personal Ministry, Product and Food Management and Restaurant Management.

Location: YWAM Strategic Frontiers, Colorado Springs.

Dates: September 15th, 2011 – June 8th, 2012

9 Months lecture / kitchen
2-3 month internship with an existing restaurant

Cost: $8,900 USD/person for lecture phase, internship costs vary with location
