Values alignment leads to emotional commitment?

June 2, 2011

Swarms are all about reaching a vision. In order to reach a vision, swarms establish both a plausible promise (a specific thing they are going to do on behalf of the vision) as well as shared values (the “rules of the road”—the things they will do and won’t do to fulfill the promise). Values are just as important as Promises, because as we all know, despite Machiavelli’s insistence, the ends never justify the means.

The Leadership Advisor writes in “Emotional commitment and your bottom line”:

Emotional commitment comes from values alignment. As people, we have an emotional connection with our values. They influence how we view ourselves and they help form our world view. No amount of policies and procedures will change someone’s values. As an organization, you have to be exceptionally clear on your values; not only in what they are, but in how leadership pro-actively lives out those values publicly.

Then they continue on to provide some specific guidelines for how to develop those values. Read the article for more, and comment below if you agree or disagree.
