Researching generations in nations other than USA

June 8, 2011

Every nation has babies which are born at roughly the same time and which grow up with roughly the same crises. This helps to form generations that share a common culture. In America we talk a lot about GIs, Silent/Swings, Boomers, Busters/Xers, and Millennials. But other nations are talking about their own generations. See for example The Truth About Malaysian Millennials.

What might be interesting to research in the future is the degree to which generations in each nation cross-pollinate to those in other nations. In other words, this particular description of Malaysian Millennials is very similar to a discussion of American Millennials. Yet Malaysian Millennials are undoubtedly different in key ways, since they are in a decidedly different culture.
