More on migrants to the West

April 27, 2011

In “Fastest Growing U. S. Metro Areas (500,000+ pop)“, J.D. Payne reflects on a Wall Street Journal article and identifies some emerging cities where international migrants can be found.

It has been very interesting to me over the past month to be listening to conversations where people are discussing large concentrations of core unreached peoples now being found in the United States. For example, Somalis used to be one of the groups considered the very hardest to reach, because their country was so hard to get to–and now I find there are many concentrations of Somalis right here in America.

More and more we are without excuse. More and more the nations are coming to us. Unfortunately many go overboard with fears of being conquered.

Toward the end of the first millennia of the church, the Irish had evangelized Europe and spread a vibrant faith all over the continent. Their monasteries had grown admittedly fat and rich. And then, all of a sudden, came the Vikings, and they plundered the monasteries. Many were dismayed, especially when the Vikings settled among them and took control of large swathes of property.

But a few reached out and began evangelizing them… perhaps not perfectly, but what mission ever is perfect? Are you waiting to be the perfect witness to the unreached among us before you try to be a witness at all? You’ll be waiting a very long time.
