Greetings to the +100 people who stopped by doubtless as a result of Marti Smith’s kind mention of the School of Missions in the latest issue of Missions Catalyst. For those of you who don’t know about Missions Catalyst, you really should – this is an excellent resource esp. for mobilizers. Marti was with Caleb Project and is now with Pioneers after that group was absorbed a short while back.
Just as an FYI, I have not been recording anything this week as I have been fighting off a cold, doing some much needed repairs in our house, and preparing for the Worldwide Conference of Mission to Unreached Peoples, for which I leave in a week. This is one of the great benefits of being in an agency – a chance every so often to get together with all of the other missionaries in your org. Such conferences are very different from what you might think of when you hear “missionary conference.” It’s one thing to go to Lausanne, for example, where there are thousands of people, most of whom don’t speak your language, aren’t in your agency, don’t share your focus, etc. That’s a great place to meet new people and find out what’s going on in the wider stream of life. But going to an agency conference where you meet a few hundred people (or more) who share your language, your focus, your “family,” etc. is an incredibly energizing time. If you wonder why you should join an agency–this is one of the reasons.
The last time I was at the Worldwide Conference, I went as a special guest–I wasn’t part of MUP yet–but that event is probably one of the major reasons I was drawn to MUP when it was time to transition. I am eagerly looking forward to this next event. I’ll probably be blogging some of it just to give you a taste of what such a conference is like. The conference itself is about a week long, but there will be 4 days of travel involved, and another week of pre-meetings, so I’ll be gone in total a little over 2 weeks!
