The task of the Great Commission is that, ultimately, “the fame and glory of God will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2).
For that to happen, the children of God must “multiply and fill the earth” (Genesis 1:28), spreading God’s glory with us as we go.
We multiply by “going into all the world and making disciples” (Matthew 1:28) who in turn “pass on to others what has been passed on to them” (2 Timothy 2:2).
We cannot do this if we do not go, and we cannot go if no one sends (Romans 10:14).
Ralph Winter said once it was better to stay at home and send 10 others in your place than to go as just one.
But that only works if you actually do the hard work of recruiting and sending someone.
Who do you know that could go?
If you don’t think you can go, then at least call the person up, take them out for coffee, and ask the hard question: “Have you ever considered being a missionary?”
Give them a copy of Operation World. Meet up to pray for the nations. If you’re going to stay at home, then take action to send someone.
