Do You Have A “Success” Agreement at your agency?

November 15, 2010

All Things Workplace: Do You Have A “Success” Agreement At Work? is an interesting little blog post about a Chartered Management Institute study of 1,684 managers in the UK on this question. How it relates to missions: does agency management and the missionaries have a clear and agreed-upon definition of what constitutes “success” in missions?

Some missionaries might define success as

… reaching their targeted people group with some form of ministry

… completely evangelizing their people group with the Good News

… seeing a church planting movement start and begin multiplying

… seeing missionaries sent from their people group to another group

… simply, obeying God’s calling on their life, regardless of the results

… surviving overseas for a certain amount of time w/o disease or death

What’s your definition of success? Does your agency agree with it? Is there significant disagreement – or even a situation where both sides probably think it’s different things?
