Buckle up your seatbelts! You are in for a ride!

November 9, 2010

So here’s the situation: Our 1995 GMC Safari is in its last death throes. It is showing all the signs including, but not limited to: power steering leakage which points to the $800 problem that has something to do with that whole system (which is leaving its traces all over our driveway). It also needs the regular maintenance of new tires and new brake pads. But its latest pang became evident on Sunday as we pulled into our driveway from church; it won’t go into park anymore. In fact it won’t shift at all and since we couldn’t shift it into park it won’t turn on at all since apparently it must be in park to start. (I can explain to you compound annual growth rates, net migration, rate of closure, and why all of that is important to the status of the church, but the internal workings of a 2 ton automobile?…not so much.) At any rate, if you swing by our house don’t park behind us because only the emergency brake is holding her in place.

We don’t really care to tow her into the shop to be told how much more money we’d need to sink into her for the old girl to run a few more months or maybe a year if we are very lucky. We think it’s time for her to be put out to pasture or sent to the big scrap heap in the sky!  At over 150,000 miles we just want to urge her to head toward the light.

The Lord has given us the faith to ask for a new (to us) vehicle. Something with some pep under the hood and many more trouble-free miles to share together. He’s been prepping us in our Bible readings and fellowship to ask him for a vehicle miracle because he cares so much for us as his beloved children. He knew we would have this need before we even were. And what’s more he’s already prepared the provision and waits to give it to us.

We’ve done some digging (research, if you will) on what the options include. We’ll spare you the gory details, but the bottom line is this: A really good bargain has been found! A fellow we have heard of through the grapevine gets used cars of all sorts, fixes them up and sells them cheap to missionary types as a way to use his talents to the glory of the Lord. He has a 2002 Honda Odyssey with an engine that’s only seen 38,000 miles that he would sell to us for $6500.

We are so excited!

We so need you! (Aw, come on! You knew that was coming!)

Yep!  We need you to pray that this would come together, ask the Lord if you are to help out with this very real felt need. (Oh yes! We are feelin’ it!) And then give if so directed. That’s it!

Oh yeah. You can send any funds to Mission to Unreached Peoples, PO 860548, Plano, TX 75086-0548 (and include a copy of this email so they know where to put the funds), or give online via http://gati.info/ol/long. Send any encouraging emails to justinlong@gmail.com andlongheidi@gmail.com.

Thanks and be looking for the reports of what our God does!

Sincerely,
Justin & Heidi Long
(& the four Little Longs!)
