Today I’m on the phone with Bruce Anderson. The Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries feeds, clothes, and shelters over 300 people per day, and over 7,000 per year, steadily. Bruce tells us where some of these folks come from, some of the reasons why they are homeless, how their network is ministering to them, and the basis for discipleship work among them. His note on the presence of ethnic minorities amongst their group (really, the lack thereof) are very interesting indeed. But this talk is most inspiring to me because Bruce’s model, while done in the West, can be reproduced elsewhere–and I think should be. YWAMers and WECers (and others) ought to go visit and see what can be learned and done abroad! Bruce credits a lot of his thinking to Perspectives as well.

Very nice. I had the pleasure of visiting and touring this facility at KARM in Knoxville. They are doing an incredible job. I’m encouraged by Bruce and his heart to disciple their guests. This model of community ministry, discipleship and outreach is not only embraced by the local businesses in dt Knoxville, but a model for anyone interested in doing the same in their town. My hats off to Bruce and KARM!
