Swarm – ACT Alliance

Over a hundred relief and development organizations with a religious background now form one of the world’s largest aid alliances, the ACT alliance. The whole world, the Swedish Church’s international work is one of the members.

- Almost everywhere in the world where there are churches, there is also the ACT Alliance. We’re big and we are making a difference in poor people’s lives around the world, “said John Nduna, ACT alliance’s Secretary General.

Valuable local knowledge

Churches and church aid organizations are behind much of what has made the world both in terms of emergency relief, development and work to influence global injustice.

Now the churches together in the ACT Alliance to become more efficient and provide more vulnerable people greater ability to become self-sufficient.

ACT Alliance consists of more than 100 organizations in 125 countries with local staff and a very useful local information.

Become a stronger voice

- The biggest change is that we are methodically working and doing it from a single platform and with a common alliance name, the ACT alliance. During the same umbrella, we become a stronger voice in the global village, “said Margareta Grape, Swedish Church’s foreign policy chief.

Experience of cooperation in disaster

The emergency work is already close cooperation between organizations in different countries. Because there were churches, including the whole world, the Swedish Church’s international work, providing a solid support such as coordination of the disaster in Haiti. Now churches are taking the experiences from disaster to development cooperation also.

At least 150 000 people have received emergency assistance through the ACT in Haiti the past two months. Work will now continue with getting schools, give more properly shelter before the rainy season and help teachers to provide support to anxious and depressed children.
