What is the difference (online evangelism/ministry)

July 25, 2010

…between crossing into a different culture in the physical world, and crossing into a different culture in the online world?

…between exchanging currency from Dollars to Ringgits, and exchanging currency into a vultural world?

…between being a blessing in the context of a natural disaster, and being a blessing in the context of an online environment?

…between presenting the Gospel in a meaningful way in a different language, face to face, and presenting the Gospel in a meaningful way online?

…if massively multiplayer online games are a $40 billion industry that is “here to stay”–and attracting players from all over the world. Look at this trailer. Count the number of different accents you hear. Is it possible for Christians incarnate the Gospel in an online world populated by unreached peoples?

Consider the following video, too:

“Being in the right place, at the right time, could touch the lives of more than 300,000 people in 230 countries around the world.”

I’m not saying that this is something we should do as primary mission. But… what is the difference between this and, say, sports evangelism?
